Cassie Ventura, a model and actress, made headlines in 2016 after being photographed with visible bruises just two days after she was assaulted by her ex, Sean “Diddy” Combs. The incident took place at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Calif. On March 7, 2016, Ventura walked the red carpet for the premiere of her movie “The Perfect Match” hand-in-hand with Combs. She wore a gold and black sleeveless dress that seemed to reveal bruises on her upper left arm. A later outfit change into a green mini dress showed additional black and blue bruises on her legs.

The disturbing incident was captured on camera and showed Combs violently throwing Ventura to the floor by her neck, kicking her, and dragging her by her hoodie across the ground. He also threw objects at her and exhibited predatory behavior. Ventura’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, condemned Combs’ actions and praised Ventura’s courage for coming forward.

Ventura, also known as Cassie, filed an abuse and rape lawsuit against Combs in November 2023. The lawsuit detailed how Combs became “extremely intoxicated” and physically assaulted her, even throwing glass vases at her as she tried to escape the hotel room. The lawsuit was settled one day after it was filed, with Combs maintaining his innocence and emphasizing that the settlement was not an admission of guilt.

Despite settling the lawsuit with Ventura, Combs faced multiple sexual assault allegations at the time. His attorney, Ben Brafman, reiterated that the settlement did not mean Combs was admitting to any wrongdoing. Combs expressed satisfaction with reaching a mutual agreement with Ventura but continued to deny the claims against him.

The case of Cassie Ventura sheds light on the prevalence of abuse and misconduct in relationships, even among high-profile individuals. Ventura’s bravery in speaking out against her abuser serves as a reminder that no one should tolerate abusive behavior, regardless of the abuser’s status or reputation. Combs’ actions, as captured in the video footage and detailed in the lawsuit, highlight the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and supporting survivors of abuse.
