The CW’s fall schedule includes several new unscripted series, like Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble, and the return of Whose Line Is It Anyway. However, one of the network’s long-standing hits, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, did not find a spot in the lineup. The show has been on for ten seasons and over 150 episodes since its debut in 2011. With the recent conclusion of its tenth season, CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz hinted at a possible new season in 2025. Schwartz praised the show’s consistency and success, recognizing it as a priority for the network.

FBoy Island, a major unscripted endeavor for The CW, saw its third season debut last fall, following its origin on HBO Max. The show has a female-focused spinoff called Lovers and Liars currently airing. Despite efforts to reduce costs by shifting production locations, it’s unlikely that FBoy Island will return. Schwartz pointed out that the show’s youthful appeal may not align with The CW’s target audience. The network seems to have more success with slightly older-skewing unscripted shows.

Among The CW’s recent unscripted ventures is 24/7 Police, created by Jersey Shore producer SallyAnn Salsano, which had a strong premiere. Schwartz mentioned a decision pending on this show, noting its alignment with the network’s affiliates and local news programs. Additionally, The Big Bakeover from Velvet Hammer Media is set to launch in June and has received praise from unscripted executive Heather Olander. Schwartz expressed excitement for the upcoming premiere of more unscripted shows on The CW’s schedule.

The CW’s strategy for unscripted series in its fall schedule reflects a mix of established hits, new ventures, and challenges in finding the right programming fit for its audience. As the network continues to navigate the competitive landscape of unscripted television, decisions on renewals, new series, and audience demographics will play a crucial role in shaping its programming lineup for the future.
