Warner Bros has achieved a significant milestone in the film industry by becoming the first studio to surpass the $1 billion mark at the international box office in 2024. This achievement was reached in just 15 weeks, setting a new speed record for the studio compared to previous years.
The success can be attributed to the studio’s major blockbuster releases, including “Dune: Part Two” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” “Dune: Part Two,” directed by Denis Villeneuve, has grossed an impressive $411.8 million offshore and has a global cumulative total of $683.9 million. The sequel has dominated the international and global box office for three consecutive weekends. On the other hand, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” helmed by Adam Wingard, has earned $278.6 million internationally, with a worldwide total of $436.6 million. The film has also claimed the top spot overseas and globally for three weeks.
While these films have contributed significantly to Warner Bros’ record-breaking achievement, there are still seven markets yet to open, including the Middle East and Japan. The anticipation for the release in these regions is high, and it is expected that the success of these films will continue to grow.
Apart from the major releases, other notable films such as “Wonka,” “Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom,” “Eine Million Minuten,” and “One Life” have also played a part in Warner Bros’ international box office success in 2024.
