CBS has just announced its first new series for the upcoming 2025-26 broadcast season, and it’s none other than the highly-anticipated spinoff from Fire Country – Sheriff Country. Led by the talented Morena Baccarin, the show promises to delve deeper into the exciting world of law enforcement in the fictional small town of Edgewater.
In the new series, Morena Baccarin portrays the character of Sheriff Mickey Fox, who is known for her no-nonsense attitude and dedication to her job. As the stepsister of Sharon Leone, the division chief of Cal Fire, Sheriff Fox finds herself tangled in a web of criminal activity while trying to maintain order in Edgewater. Adding to her troubles are her ex-convict father and a mysterious incident involving her daughter.
The idea for Sheriff Country was first introduced in an April episode of Fire Country, where Baccarin made a guest appearance. Written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan, the episode laid the foundation for the new spinoff and showcased the potential of expanding the Fire Country universe. Max Thieriot, the star of Fire Country, also contributed to the story development and even directed the pilot episode of Sheriff Country.
Given the immense success of Fire Country as the most-watched new broadcast series of the previous season, it comes as no surprise that CBS decided to greenlight the spinoff. With an average of 8 million viewers per episode and high ratings in multi-platform viewing, the network is confident in the potential of Sheriff Country. CBS President and CEO George Cheeks hinted at the possibility of a spinoff last June, emphasizing the importance of building mass-appeal franchises.
The initial episode of Sheriff Country is penned by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, with a story crafted by Phelan, Rater, and Max Thieriot. Executive producers include Thieriot, Phelan, Rater, as well as Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for JBTV. The series is produced by CBS Studios, ensuring top-notch quality and production value.
