Despite canceling the event that was planned for April 4, 2020, they went ahead and got married on the same day at Spitzer’s Columbia County home near Millbrook.
Despite their wedding, Girand is still often referred to as Spitzer’s fiancée in the media, indicating that their marriage did not receive as much attention as it deserved. The couple made an appearance at the Millbrook Horse Trials at Barbara Tober’s Yellow Frame Farm, where they seemed to be the center of attention. According to a source, Spitzer appeared happier and more at ease with himself than ever before.
Spitzer and Girand sponsored one of the tables at the event, and Spitzer described it as “a beautiful event.” It was hosted by Barbara Tober, a former EIC of Bride’s magazine, who shared horse tales with “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell. Tober reminisced about her early experiences with horses, revealing that she had a horse at her family’s farm at the age of 6. She also shared stories of riding with former Simon & Schuster editor Michael Korda in Central Park before work.
Spitzer and Girand got engaged in 2019 and became an item in 2017. Girand, the founder and president of Sebastian Capital, has been by Spitzer’s side since their relationship began. Spitzer was previously married to Silda Spitzer from 1987 to 2013, with their marriage coming to an end five years after the infamous prostitution scandal that led to Spitzer’s resignation as governor in 2008.
