In light of Kelly Clarkson’s latest lawsuit against her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock has made a statement in response to the allegations made against him. Clarkson claimed that Blackstock owes her more than the $2.6 million that a California labor commissioner ruled he owed her for illegally acting as an “unlicensed talent agency” since 2007. Blackstock, however, has denied “each and every allegation” made by Clarkson and argued that the filing should be dismissed due to the timing of the labor commissioner’s ruling. According to the documents obtained, Blackstock and his lawyers claim that Clarkson failed to file a notice of appeal within 10 days of the decision, rendering it outside of the proper jurisdiction to file a separate lawsuit now.
The documents further elaborated that any alleged illegal procurement obtained from Blackstock acting as Clarkson’s unlicensed talent agency has already been partially or fully paid out to Clarkson and Blackstock’s community estate. They also argued that Clarkson’s complaint fails to state sufficient facts to constitute a cause of action against Starstruck Entertainment, Blackstock’s family company. The representatives for Clarkson were not immediately available for comment on this matter, leaving Blackstock’s response as the only statement available at the moment.
Back in March, Clarkson filed the new lawsuit against Blackstock after the labor commissioner ruled that he and Starstruck Entertainment violated California’s Talent Agencies Act. This violation occurred when they procured employment for Clarkson despite not being licensed agents. Clarkson’s lawsuit demanded that all agreements between the parties should be declared void and unenforceable, with all monies previously paid to Starstruck to be disgorged. She argued that she should be reimbursed for commissions, fees, profits, advances, producing fees, or any other monies earned through their dealings.
This legal battle is just one episode in the ongoing drama between Clarkson and Blackstock. Since 2020, they have been embroiled in various disputes over money and management. Starstruck previously sued Clarkson for $1.4 million in unpaid commissions, claiming that they had played a significant role in her career and deserved compensation for their efforts. The former couple’s divorce was finalized in 2022, with Clarkson ordered to pay Blackstock a one-time sum, monthly child support, and spousal support. They share two children together, and the complexities of their financial and legal entanglements continue to unfold.
The legal wrangling between Brandon Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson is a messy and complicated affair. Both parties have made strong allegations and counterarguments, leaving the resolution of this matter uncertain. As the case progresses, more details are likely to emerge, shedding light on the intricacies of their past dealings and the fallout from their troubled relationship. Only time will tell how this saga ends, but it serves as a cautionary tale about the complexities of mixing business with personal relationships.
