After a long and successful career as the executive director of Hamptons Film Festival, Anne Chaisson has announced that she will be stepping down from her post after this fall’s edition of the fest. Chaisson has been an integral part of the festival since its inception and has played a key role in its growth and success over the years.
During her time as executive director, Chaisson has made significant contributions to the festival. She co-founded and co-chaired the organization’s advisory board in 2002 before taking on the role of executive director in 2012. Under her leadership, the festival has launched a number of new initiatives and programs, including Compassion, Justice and Animal Rights, Air Land and Sea Signature, and a weekly year-round “now showing” series.
One of Chaisson’s biggest accomplishments during her tenure was overseeing the expansion of the festival from a five-day event to an 11-day extravaganza. This expansion allowed the festival to showcase even more films and attract a larger audience. Additionally, Chaisson introduced new awards to honor those in the creative space who excel in other fields, highlight female screenwriters, and recognize narrative short filmmakers.
Like many festival organizers, Chaisson had to navigate the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. She implemented virtual events and drive-ins as interim solutions to continue engaging with audiences and supporting filmmakers during these unprecedented times. Despite these challenges, Chaisson remained dedicated to ensuring the festival’s success and longevity.
Randy Mastro, Chairman of the Board for HamptonsFilm, plans to appoint a subcommittee of the board to conduct a national search for Chaisson’s replacement. The new executive director will be chosen after this year’s October festival, and Chaisson has expressed confidence in the board’s ability to find a suitable candidate to carry on her legacy.
Anne Chaisson has been a driving force behind the success of the Hamptons Film Festival for the past 12 years. Her dedication, vision, and leadership have helped shape the festival into what it is today. As she prepares to step down from her role, Chaisson leaves behind a lasting legacy and a strong foundation for the festival’s continued growth and success. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
