The box office saw previews for two wide entries on Thursday, with the Zoë Kravitz-directed thriller Blink Twice and Lionsgate/Edward R. Pressman presentation’s The Crow seemingly struggling to make a significant impact. Despite receiving favorable reviews, Blink Twice, which cost $20M to produce and stars Channing Tatum, only managed to earn $820K in previews and is expected to have a single-digit opening weekend. On the other hand, The Crow only earned $650K in previews and received one star ratings, hinting at a potential D+ CinemaScore.

According to Quorum tracking on Friday morning, Blink Twice is anticipated to have an opening weekend of $10M-$13M, while Sony Affirm’s faith-based film The Forge is looking promising with a five-star rating from moviegoers and an 88% definite recommend. The Forge, directed by Alex Kendrick, had a budget of $5M before advertising costs and is being shown in 1,800 locations. However, it is unlikely that The Forge will achieve the same success as Kendrick Brothers’ War Room, which grossed close to $68M after being released in 2015.

This weekend is expected to be dominated by Disney movies, with Alien: Romulus and Deadpool & Wolverine vying for the top spot. Alien: Romulus is projected to outperform Deadpool & Wolverine, with estimates of $18M compared to $17M. Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Alvarez, has accumulated $56.3M from 3,885 locations by the end of the week. The film faced stiff competition on Thursday from the Marvel Studios movie but managed to stay ahead. Despite performing better than Alien: Covenant in its first week, Alien: Romulus has yet to match the success of Prometheus, the highest-grossing Alien movie with a domestic total of $126.2M.

The Box Office also saw D&W ending Week 4 with $42M and a total of $558.8M. While this performance is impressive, it falls short of Barbie’s domestic earnings of $636.2M last summer. Additionally, It Ends with Us, distributed by Sony and Wayfarer Studios, closed its second week with $35.2M after making $2.2M on Thursday from 3,739 sites. Fathom Events celebrated the 15th anniversary of Coraline, which grossed $1.3M on Thursday, bringing its first week total to $16M and overall earnings to $19.1M at 1,535 locations. The film has now accumulated a lifetime total of $101.4M, showcasing its enduring appeal over the years.

The box office landscape is constantly evolving, with various films competing for audience attention and box office supremacy. While some films may exceed expectations, others may struggle to find their footing in a crowded marketplace. It will be interesting to see how these films perform in the coming weeks and whether any of them can break out and become a box office success story.
