The Watermill Center’s annual summer benefit is known for pushing boundaries and showcasing edgy, high-end art. This year was no different, with a guest list that included the likes of Solange Knowles, Peter Marino, and Maxwell Osborne. The event featured a range of unique and provocative performance art pieces that left guests in awe.
The theme of this year’s event was “A Laboratory: 100 Years of Experimentation,” paying homage to the history of the art center. The sprawling Hamptons property, once a telecommunications laboratory, provided the perfect backdrop for the 20 site-specific performances and installations that guests were able to explore throughout the evening.
From a man running on a treadmill in front of a block of ice to a performer holding a fake pig and another wearing ears and a snout while vaping and drinking a martini, the evening was filled with surprises at every turn. Guests were treated to a truly immersive experience as they walked through corridors of singing artists, crawled over seashells and concrete balls, and witnessed a range of bizarre and intriguing performances.
The event also honored renowned choreographer Lucinda Childs, whose work was showcased during the evening. In addition, guests were treated to a performance by rapper and performance artist Mykki Blanco, adding another layer of excitement and creativity to the already vibrant event.
Overall, The Watermill Center’s annual summer benefit once again proved to be a highlight of the art world, bringing together a diverse range of artists, performers, and guests for a night of exploration and innovation. The event’s theme of experimentation was evident in every aspect of the evening, from the performances to the installations, creating a truly unforgettable experience for all who attended.
